Textiles & Footwear — ESPR Digital Product Passport

The textile delegated act under ESPR is expected between 2025 and 2027. Specific mandatory DPP fields and enforcement dates will be defined in that act. This page documents the anticipated requirements based on current Commission work programme communications. Traceable will update templates when the delegated act is published.
Why Textiles Are an ESPR Priority
Clothing and footwear is one of the Commission's highest-priority product categories under ESPR. The textile industry is among the largest contributors to global CO₂ emissions, water consumption, and micro-plastic pollution. The Commission identified textiles as Priority 1 in its ESPR work plan, reflecting the scale of the environmental impact and the availability of existing data standards (notably the EU Product Environmental Footprint category rules for apparel).
The textile DPP is expected to make product sustainability data — currently hidden from consumers — publicly accessible at the point of sale. A QR code on the garment or its packaging will link to the DPP.
Who Is In Scope
The delegated act for textiles is expected to cover:

Exemptions: products sold exclusively for military or protective services, products for medical use, and products with a surface area of less than a threshold to be defined in the act.

The Commission's preparatory studies and stakeholder consultations have identified the following as the likely mandatory and recommended data categories for textile DPPs:

Using Traceable for Textile DPPs
Traceable's platform supports textile DPPs through its generic product passport infrastructure. The core features — structured data forms, QR code generation, document management, supply chain data collection, and PoLI access control — apply equally to textile products.
Current status: Textile-specific DPP form templates will be made available when the delegated act is published and Traceable releases the corresponding template update. Operators can begin structuring their textile product data now using the generic product form.
How to set up a textile product DPP:
- Navigate to Products → Create product in the Company Portal.
- Select Textiles / Apparel as the product category (or use the generic category if textiles is not yet listed as a specific option — contact support@traceable.digital for early access to the textiles template).
- Complete the available fields. Use the notes above as a guide for which data to gather from your supply chain.
- Upload sustainability declarations and certification documents in the Documents tab.
- Collect fibre origin and composition data from suppliers using the Data Requests feature in the Suppliers section.
- Publish when the DPP is sufficiently complete.
